Overcomers
Several years ago the state of Texas asked WVIW to start holding 12-step drug and alcohol programs in the Texas prisons. We were very firm in stating that the program we use "Overcomers" is VERY Christ centered. We were told that is exactly what they wanted because, in their words, " IT WORKS." As we began this program it soon became apparent that this was a very big and expensive job. We entered into an agreement with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice whereby we would provid the volunteer facilitators and the state provide the books. To date we have placed "Overcomers" in over 40 prisons, including three Federal Prisons. This is truly a miracle of God.
Volunteers facilitate this program once a week in a prison for three months. The program then repeats itself. This goes on unendingly. Overcomers is a Christian, 12-step drug and alcohol program. We had been using this program in three Texas prisons for four years. Now the Texas Department of Criminal Justice has asked WVIW to put this program in every prison in the state. (114). 85% of prisoners in Texas have a chemical problem. "Overcomers works".
